Explore East Meon, The South Downs & nearby!
Things to do in the area
Pound Orchard is a central location for:
-
Investigating East Meon and the South Downs National Park. Both have rich heritages that are worth exploring.
Our village dates back to 1st century. It has a Norman Church and a Great Hall and many other older buildings of intrest. It too has a younger hertiage as the Royal Navy's Communication Centre was located within the parish at Leydene House.
The South Downs Park, amongst its many local assets has an ancient burial ground (barrow) at Winchester Hill, Butser Hill (the highest point in Hampshire) and The source of the River Meon (the highest rising Chalk stream in England). All are just 2 or 3 miles walk and often have clear views to the Isle of Wight.
-
Walking/Cycling. There are many local circular routes of varying lengths whether within the precepts of East Meon or within the South Downs National Park. We can lend guests local guides to many of these routes and show you other opportunities on our local maps.
-
Visiting the Vineyards of Hampshire and West Sussex:
Over the past 20 years a fledgling sparkling wine production area has grown to be a major force on the world stage with French Champagne Houses and the likes of Berry Brother and Symingtons (of Port fame) investing in the area. It has become a very important local industry.
East Meon not only boasts its own Vineyard, producing its vintage Berrygarden champenoise. (https://www.eastmeonvineyard.co.uk), we are close to many other Vineyards including: Hambledon (https://hambledonvineyard.co.uk/), Raimes, Exton Park, Blackdown Ridge, Upperton, Tinwood, Hattingley Valley, West Ashling, Black Chalk, The Grange and many more...
